It’s going to be … very fine! In the course of the year 2023 vineyards have unfolded uncomplicated and promising. A mild, wet spring encouraged bud burst and flowering slightly later than in the previous years. The following growing period enabled the grapes to develop steadily and carefree. Summer was pleasant though increasingly dry. However, thanks to Löss, drought didn’t harm our vineyards. Late summer and early autumn were particularly warm and also dry, thus ripening of grapes accelerated during this time of the year. Eventually, we began this year’s harvest period on September 18. And it was just great! The grapes were extremely healthy, intense in aromas and still showed a nice acidic structure. This was the result of not only suitable weather conditions, but it was also promoted through attentive plant protection measures and manual quality control: High quantities were reduced early in July by cutting grapes in half. This led to better aeration, less risk of fungal diseases, higher concentration and even ripening. We finished off after 5 1/2 weeks just before Austrian holiday season on Oktober 25. Quantities are just above average, quality seems great so far! We expect well-balanced, expressive whites and compact, elegant reds.
